Our Classic Provencal village house of 15 years

Simple Living in Courage and Croissants

St. Quentin-la-Poterie, 5km from Uzes (between Avignon and Nimes)

On July 10, 2008 we closed on the sale of our home for the past three years. Both a sad and right decision as we loved this home for vacations and it gave us the ability to live in the center of French life for 3 years. But now it is time for something different. We will buy again soon, but this time on one floor with a look toward long term easier living and hopefully with a pool for the hot summer months.

In looking back it is amazing to see how we lived comfortably in simplicity which we will carry with us forever.

Situated in the middle of a lovely artists village is our three story village house. An easy stroll throughout the lively village will bring you to the three patisseries, boucherie, small grocery store, village cafe, artelier, and three restaurants. The accommodation sleeps six easily with two large bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor and a beautiful bedroom suite with large bathroom on the ground floor off the courtyard. Situated in the middle floor are the kitchen, living room, 1/2 bath and large terrace (perfect for dining and hanging out) overlooking the red tile rooftops.

Nearby Uzes has a grand marche on Saturday mornings and a smaller organic market on Wednesday mornings as well as a wide selection of shops, restaurants, banks, and areas to explore. Summer months are full of festivals, concerts and activities for everyone. The Fall brings out the beautiful orange colors of the vineyards and the Spring blossoms with fruit trees and red poppies.

Vineyards, hiking, swimming and canoeing in the River Gard all surround the village and region easily accessing any outdoor sport you wish to find. The Pt. du Gard is 15 minutes drive as is Avignon and Nimes 30-45 minutes.

St. Quentin-la-Poterie

St. Quentin-la-Poterie is a famous potters village with 12 active potters and pottery classes given throughout the year through the Culturel Office. It is one of the larger villages in the area "tout commerce," and well served with everything you would need; a supermarket, Friday farmer's market, butcher, boulangeries, a bar and cafe, five restaurants, butcher, newsagent, post office, pharmacy, doctors, tourist office, church, and woods behind the village.

UZES

5km down the road is Uzes a lively medieval village distinguished as the first Duche of France with a beautiful chateau and towers dating from the 12th century. The village is built around the Place aux Herbes, the center square, where a round fountain sprayed water into a stone pool and kids played happily. Eight narrow pedestian only cobblestone streets extend from the center square like spokes on a wheel with shops, restaurants, and apartments on top. The town circles around the outside providing a community feeling in one big circle. Uzes is also the home to two summer festivals and an abundance of hiking trails marked throughout the area.

If you love nature, wine, good food, and beauty you will love it here!

HOUSE DESCRIPTION

THREE STORY VILLAGE HOUSE WITH COURTYARD AND TERRACE

Living in a simple very old home (11th centur) the walls are stone and keep in the warmth of the fireplace in winter and the coolness of the stone walls in the summer. Like many old village homes the rooms are simple, two bedrooms on top floor with an added bathroom. Middle floor has the living room and kitchen with a half bath (remodeled as well) and the cave has a bedroom suite, middle lounge, and office (which used to be the garage fit for a small car). The terrace provides a place to eat outside throughout most of the year as well as a courtyard when it gets hot in the summer.

Simpler living means no dishwasher, garbage disposal or microwave (which we could have put in at some point, but didn't ). One small pantry and dishes in view on a open shelf. The major updating and remodeling were in adding a bathroom up and downstairs and redoing the walls, ceiling and roof, enlarging the terrace (a necessity) and adding our decor. Parking is on the street, no closets, little storage and creativity.
