Take Action everyday with a Treasure Hunt
Remember when you were a kid and you used to go on a treasure hunt. Everyone would huddle together examining the list of objects they had to gather from neighbors. Ready, set, go. Another version once you could drive, was for a group of us to get into a car withand search the town for the special objects written on our list. As we found each item we had to take a picture in front of them; a lamppost with a pair of shoes hanging over them, the KFC Colonel, or the hangout where the police ate their breakfast.
Recently I learned about a way to turn our favorite Treasure Hunts into a game that helps us to easily forward on our goals. The Treasure Hunt is a great way to have fun with our goals and map out the route to success.
Here's how it works: Take a goal such as "Exercise more". On a board, draw a map with a stop for everyday over the next 30 days.
In each stop or square write a word, draw a picture or cut something out of a magazine. Each image should represent something that you can do that day that will move you forward with your intention.
For example, one of my goals is to exercise (i.e. walk, yoga, jazz dance, lift a few weights, stretch) everyday for at least 10 minutes. On my map I have drawn something I can do or hope to do that day. I have put items down that are realistic (i.e. stretch for 10 minutes, walk at noon for 40 min or take a yoga class for an hour) and that I believe i can stick to. On days I don't have a great deal of time, I make it easy and put down the simplest goal of stretching for 10 minutes.
To top it off I am taking photos on my iphone each day to show that I did it. Proof for the Treasure Hunt!
If you are stuck on taking action towards your goals, try drawing out the treasure hunt and remember, you don't have to spend huge amounts of time or take on difficult tasks. Start simply and easily and build up your hunt as the momentum moves you forward.
Good Luck and let us know if this tip helped you achieve your intentions and goals!
